How to migrate from VTurb to VSL Max, step by step
What to write down first, how to upload your VSL, connect your checkout and swap the tag on your page without taking the offer offline.

Switching players feels like a gamble when your VSL is selling. In practice, the switch is one script tag in place of another. The real work is getting everything ready beforehand, so the page is never without a video and you can compare before and after.
This guide lays out the order we recommend. It takes less time than it sounds, and most of it can be done without touching the page that's live.
Before you start: record your baseline
Your VTurb history stays in your account there, and VSL Max doesn't import that data: your numbers here start on the day you switch. So before you switch, write down each VSL's metrics for a recent period, ideally the last two to four weeks, with traffic similar to today's:
- Play rate: how many visitors press play.
- Retention to the pitch: how many reach the moment of the offer.
- Button clicks and conversion rate.
- Revenue for the period, if you track it.
Also note the settings that are working: the active headline, when the button appears, the smart autoplay format and the color used in the player. They'll be your starting point.
1. Create your account and upload your VSL
Create your VSL Max account: you get 100 free plays and pay $0 today. Then upload your VSL file.
Use the original file exported from your editor, not a copy downloaded from another player. The better the source file, the better the quality delivered on mobile.
If you run more than one VSL, upload them all: there's no video limit on any plan.
2. Review the starter kit
As soon as the video is transcribed, the AI prepares the starter kit: it marks the pitch on the timeline, writes four headlines and three button texts, and sets up smart autoplay. The kit only fills in what's empty. Nothing you set up gets overwritten.
Use this step to bring over the settings you noted from VTurb:
- If you have a headline that already sells, add it. It joins the test alongside the AI's.
- Check the pitch moment the AI detected and adjust it if needed.
- Save your checkout link. Without it, the AI won't turn on the buy button by itself.
3. Connect your checkout
This is the step that brings sales back to the video. In the dashboard, create a conversion, choose your checkout and copy the webhook URL. On the platform, register that URL for approved sales, and enter your checkout domain in VSL Max so the player knows which links on the page to tag.
The full walkthrough is in how to connect your checkout.
4. Pixel, GA4 and domains
In your account integrations, enter your Meta Pixel and GA4 IDs. The player starts firing play, progress and checkout-start events to your campaigns. The event names are different from what you used before. Check them on the Pixel and GA4 page and update any audiences and custom conversions that depend on them.
Also add your allowed domains: the address of each sales page where the VSL will play.
5. Swap the tag on your page
With everything ready, copy the video's embed code from the dashboard and paste it where the VTurb player was. It's a script tag that works in any page builder that accepts HTML:
<div id="vsl" style="aspect-ratio:16/9"><img src="https://api.vslmax.com/v/…/cover.jpg" alt=""></div>
<script src="https://api.vslmax.com/v/…/embed.js" async></script>Your video's actual code appears in the dashboard. Three things to watch at this point:
- Remove the old script. With two players on the same page, both try to tag the same checkout links.
- Switch during a low-traffic window and open the page on your phone right after, with and without sound.
- Make a test purchase and check that the sale shows up in the VSL Max dashboard.
After the switch
Turn on maximization and choose a level. If the VSL already sells well, start with Conservative; if it gets a lot of traffic or is new, Aggressive tests more things, more often. Balanced is the recommended starting point.
For the first few days, the AI may stay in learning mode while it gathers data. Only compare the metrics you wrote down with VSL Max's after a period with similar traffic. Comparing a launch week with a regular week is misleading in both directions.
