What MCP is and what it does in VSL Max

MCP lets an AI assistant such as Claude work inside your account: list videos, upload a video, configure the player and create a conversion.

What MCP is

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets an AI assistant use tools from other systems. In practice: instead of opening the dashboard and clicking, you ask the assistant in plain language and it does the work in your VSL Max account.

It works with assistants that support MCP, such as Claude Desktop, Claude Code and Cursor. The assistant connects to the VSL Max MCP server with a key from your account, and can only do what that connection allows.

What the agent can do today

The Settings › MCP tab lists exactly what the server offers. Today there are four tools:

  • List your videos, with search by title and by folder.
  • Upload video: the agent starts the upload and sends the file to your library.
  • Create conversion: creates the conversion for a checkout platform.
  • Configure the player: applies a video's player configuration.

Anything outside that list the agent can't do in VSL Max.

How to turn it on

  1. Open Settings › MCP. Everyone on the team can see the tab, but only admins turn it on and off.
  2. Turn MCP on.
  3. The first time, VSL Max generates the agent key and shows the ready-made configuration with the key already in it.
  4. Copy it and paste it into your assistant. Step-by-step instructions for each one are in Set up MCP in your clients.

The agent key

The key is shown only once, when it is generated. VSL Max only stores a cryptographic digest (hash) of it, so no screen shows the full key again. Copy it before closing.

The agent key also shows up in Settings › API, named Agente MCP. Treat it like a password: whoever has it can act in your account through the tools above.

Turning it off and replacing the key

  • Turning MCP off cuts access for every agent immediately.
  • Turning it off does not revoke the key. If you turn it back on, the same key works again and no new key is shown.
  • To replace the key (because you lost it or someone left the team), revoke the agent key in Settings › API. Revoking asks for your password and turns MCP off. Then turn MCP on again: a new key is generated and has to be pasted into each assistant.

Importing VSLs from another platform

When you add a video, the Import from another platform option gives you a ready-made prompt to paste into your assistant. It uses MCP to list your VSLs on the source platform, upload each one to VSL Max and recreate the player configuration. Metrics history from the other platform is not imported.

Generating the key from that flow replaces the existing agent key: assistants already connected stop until they get the new one. The screen warns you before the click.
