Allowed domains and domain protection
Register the domains where your VSLs may play and turn on protection so nobody uses your video on another page and spends your plays.
What it is for
Because billing is per play, a video of yours embedded on someone else's page would spend your plays. Domain protection prevents that: when it is on, your VSLs only play on the domains you allowed. Outside the list, whoever opens the page sees a warning video instead.
The area is in Settings › Domains. Only admins add and remove domains and turn protection on.
How to add a domain
- Click Add domain.
- Enter your sales page domain. You can paste the full URL: we only keep the domain.
- Click Add domain.
Subdomains are included. Adding client.com already allows app.client.com and checkout.client.com. An account can have up to 50 domains.
How to turn on protection
- Add at least one domain. With none, protection won't turn on, because no embed in the account would play.
- Turn on Domain protection.
- Test your sales page.
Protection can take up to one minute to apply. The player files sit on a content delivery network, and what is already cached keeps being served until it revalidates. If the video still plays outside the list right after you turn it on, wait a minute and test again.
Account masked domain
The Account masked domain card shows the address the player uses to deliver your VSLs. VSL Max sets it and you can't edit it. If the account has no delivery domain of its own, it uses the VSL Max default domain.
That address is not your sales page and doesn't need to be added to the allowed domains list.
Common questions
- Is the dashboard preview blocked? No. The dashboard player runs in preview mode, which skips protection and doesn't charge a play.
- The video doesn't play when I test the page on my computer. With protection on, only domains on the list play. Test on the published domain or keep protection off while you build the page.
- I use the page on more than one domain. Add all of them. Protection applies to the whole account, not per video.
- What about the checkout domain? It doesn't go here. The checkout domain is set on the conversion. See Checkout on a custom domain.
