Checkout link: what it does and how to fill it in
The checkout link is the purchase URL for the offer. The AI uses it on the pitch button, and the player tags the click so the sale can be traced back to the video.
What it is
The Checkout link is the URL of the offer's purchase page, the same one you'd use on the buy button of your sales page. It's saved on the video and stays until you change it.
How to fill it in
- In your video library, click the video and go to the Settings tab.
- In the AI Maximization card, go to Your conversion.
- Under Checkout link, click Add purchase link.
- Paste the full URL, starting with
https://. - Press Enter or click outside the field to save.
The URL has to start with http:// or https:// and be up to 2,048 characters. To remove it, clear the field and save. Only account admins can edit the link: for members, the row is read-only.
How the link is used
- Pitch button. When you turn on AI Maximization, the starter kit creates a buy button that shows from the pitch to the end of the video. That button points to the checkout link.
- Optimization. While the link is empty, the card shows Optimization needs the checkout link. and an Add link button that takes you straight to the field.
Click tracking
With the script embed, the player watches clicks on the page. When someone clicks a link that goes to a checkout domain of the linked platform, the player adds the tracking parameter to the URL with an ID for that visitor. The platform sends that value back in its sale notification, and the purchase is attributed to the video. If the link already has the parameter filled in, the player leaves it alone.
This works for any checkout link on the page, not just the button the AI created.
Domain warning
If you see This link does not look like followed by the platform's name, the URL you pasted is outside that platform's domains. In that case the sale still comes in, but without knowing which video it came from. You have two options:
- Use the checkout link the platform itself generates.
- If your checkout runs on your own domain, add that domain to the conversion. See custom checkout domain.
Common issues
- The field won't accept the URL. Use the full URL, with
https://at the start. - Sales don't show up on the video. Check that the video has a linked conversion and that the page uses the script embed. Inside an iframe, the player can't reach the page's links.
