Linked conversion: connect sales to the video
The linked conversion tells the video which sales integration its purchases come from, so revenue and the AI can look at sales.
What it is
A conversion is the connection between VSL Max and your payment platform, set up by webhook in Settings › Conversions. The linked conversion is the one a video uses to measure its sales.
Each video uses one conversion at a time, and you can switch whenever you want. The same conversion can serve several videos: if you sell the same product in two VSLs, both can point to it.
Why link one
- The Attributed revenue and Conversions stats start showing the video's sales. See what each stat measures.
- AI Maximization starts picking the version that sells the most, instead of the one that gets more people to the pitch.
- In Test lanes, the main goal becomes Conversion: the lane that sells the most wins.
How to link
- In your video library, click the video and go to the Settings tab.
- In the AI Maximization card, go to Your conversion.
- Click Linked conversion and pick a conversion from the list.
- Click Save.
If there's no conversion for that platform yet, use Create new conversion in the same list. The setup window opens right there, and once the conversion exists you can link it. Only account admins can link or change the conversion.
How a sale reaches the video
When a visitor clicks a checkout link on your page, the player adds a tracking parameter to the URL with an ID for that visitor. The payment platform sends that parameter back in its sale notification, and that's how VSL Max knows which video the purchase came from.
So two things matter:
- The buy button has to point to a domain of the linked platform, or to a domain you've added as a custom checkout domain.
- Some platforms still receive the sale without attributing it to a video. They're flagged when you create the conversion. See platforms without attribution.
Dash or zero
In the sales stats, a dash and a zero mean different things:
- — with Link a conversion: the video has no linked conversion, so there's no way to attribute sales to it.
- 0: the conversion is linked, but no sale attributed to this video came in during the period.
Common issues
- The platform dashboard shows more sales than VSL Max. That's expected. Only sales attributed to a video count here. The time window and the cutoff time also differ, and a refund comes in as soon as the platform's notice arrives.
- The conversion shows Under review. The sale arrived without the tracking parameter. Check that the button's link points to the platform's domain and that the page uses the script embed.
- The conversion shows Awaiting validation. No real sale has come in yet. The platform's webhook test button doesn't change the status: only a real purchase does.
